NK presented a new lyrical song in Ukrainian titled “Обіцяю” (I Promise). The song is very tender and romanic while the leading part is assigned to love. The song is complimented by an incredible and conceptual video. Once again NK remains the first who’d turn the music video into a legit art project.
The music video was directed by Denis Manokha and Maxym Shelkovnikov.
The video reproduces paintings that are considered world class masterpiece. NK appears as Mona Lisa, Frida Kahlo, Olympia from Manet’s painting, Girl with a Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer, Lady Lilith by Dante Gabriel Rossetti as well as Venus – one of the goddess of joy and happiness from Primavera painting by Botticelli. One could also notice a reference to renowned Sunflowers by Van Gogh along with the theme from The Creation of Adam painted by a great artist of the High Renaissance Michelangelo. Artists used to draw paintings to immortalize their feelings. Same idea applies to the video as well and by reproducing renowned masterpiece NK expresses her endless love.
On the screen NK remains a mysterious beauty from various eras, yet, in a contemporary interpretation, reflecting all the up-to-date trends. Her appearances are conceptually mysterious: Mona Lisa with her enigmatic smile, Olympia tempting anyone who dared to look her in the eye, Girl with a Pearl Earring seamed to freeze when looking back over her shoulder for just a moment.
Paintings also share the idea of pure love just like Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, Gustav Klimt and Adele Bloch-Bauer. The artist also embodies the love itself when she appears as Roman goddess Venus. She is one of the three Graces who were considered the goodnesses of innocence, beauty and passion. Every painting has a unique touching story hidden behind the canvas. The music video of NK is no different – it provides a slight hint rather than disclosing the story of the artist’s huge love. One of the key episodes of the video is a reproduction of elements from Michelangelo’s The Creation of Adam where two hands are moving one towards another. That’s the sensitive confession addressed to NK’s lover, while the gesture itself symbolizes a gigantic creative force.
“Through the lens of the camera when reproducing various paintings that represent various eras we also tried our best to depict both female beauty evolution through times as well as existence of different archetypes. Every character captured on the video symbolizes a separate aspect of female nature,” – said the director Denis Manokha.
“To me that’s an exceptional song that I entirely put my heart into what makes the video a kind of exceptional too, right? It’s a passionate way to say I love you since the feeling is so pure and extraordinary that I was inspired to creating a unique art project for it. All paintings embody love and greatest feelings that are closely related to it. I wanted to engrave my emotions the way the most recognized artists used to do it beforehand,” – shared NK.
